Foi no dia 11 de fevereiro de 1932 que, reunidos sob a liderança do desembargador José Arthur Boiteux, um grupo de notáveis juristas fundou a Faculdade de Direito de Santa Catarina, primeiro curso jurídico do estado que, posteriormente, foi incorporado pela Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina.
Em 2017, a iniciativa, que foi idealizada em uma reunião da congregação do Instituto Politécnico de Florianópolis, completou 85 anos. De lá para cá, estabeleceu-se uma tradição jurídica em Santa Catarina e a Faculdade sempre foi reconhecida como uma das melhores do país, tanto na graduação, quanto na pós-graduação, que compreende um programa de mestrado e doutorado com conceito 6 pela CAPES – apenas 7 outros programas têm o mesmo conceito e nenhum outro tem conceito maior.
A data é tão icônica que foi utilizada para batizar o Centro Acadêmico XI de Fevereiro, entidade representativa dos estudantes do curso de Direito – e, também, a mais antiga do estado -, que, fundada apenas seis meses após a fundação da Faculdade, se notabilizou durante todos esses anos pela defesa dos interesses dos estudantes, tendo especial protagonismo na criação do EMAJ, escritório modelo que até hoje atende a comunidade, e, mais recentemente, na criação da empresa júnior Locus Iuris, pioneira no segmento em Santa Catarina.
O maior patrimônio da Faculdade de Direito, no entanto, são os seus egressos. Durante esses 85 anos, a Faculdade formou profissionais importantíssimos para a advocacia, para as carreiras públicas nos poderes executivo, legislativo e judiciário, bem como para a própria academia. Dentre os egressos, não é difícil identificar figuras marcantes da história catarinense e nacional.
A marca de 85 anos merece ser recordada e comemorada. Em tempos de grande turbulência e instabilidade no país, ao menos há a certeza de que a Faculdade de Direito de Santa Catarina – hoje curso integrante do Centro de Ciências Jurídicas da UFSC – continuará tendo papel fundamental na formação de valorosos juristas que enfrentarão os novos desafios que surgem a cada dia e, com orgulho, darão continuidade à mais antiga tradição jurídica catarinense.
